Current TARA bulletins and weekly messages.

TARA messages for the week of November 17, 2008.  There are seven messages:

1)  I want to extend my thanks to all who stepped up and participated in the ShakeOut drill.  Given what we were trying to accomplish, the exercise was a success and something we can all be proud of.

There will be a ShakeOut debriefing at TPD on Tuesday November 18 at 1900 hours.  All who participated are invited to attend.  Be prepared to share your thoughts, impressions, and your opinion on how we can build into an even better and more effective EmComm team.

If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please send Lou Greenbaum and/or Chuck Galbasin an email with your comments.

2)  In keeping with Torrance Police policy of rotating its Lieutenants every two years, Lieutenant Jon Megeff will be transfered to Traffic effective December 21, 2008.  It is sad that Jon Megeff will no longer be our volunteer coordinator; we will miss him.  The new Emergency Services Division Commander will be Lieutenant Rod Irvine.  Please welcome him.

3)  A TPD officer needs your help!  On November 22, there will be a Stem Cell Drive for Officer Steve Kroesen.  Come help him win his battle against Hodgkins Lymphoma.

City of Hope will be testing for compatible stem cell donors.  There is no cost to be tested.  Testing consists of four oral swabs and some paperwork.

There will be barbecue, a disk jockey, Torrance SWAT and K-9 displays, and the Lakers chearleaders.  There will also be face painting for the kids.

That's Saturday, November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Torrance Police Department (east parking lot).

For more information, contact Services Officer Luz Acevez at (310) 618-6392.

Update: TPD is requesting 10 DSV members to assist with the Drive.  You would be helping with the food, making sure all the condiments are out, carrying and fetching, etc.  Please contact Kathi ASAP if you can help our for this most worthy Drive.

4)  All Torrance Disaster Service Volunteers and family are invited to the 2nd Annual DSV Holiday Dinner on Saturday December 6th at 6:30 p.m., at the Torrance Memorial Medical Center Health Conference Center.

There will be Door Prizes, Service Awards, a visit from Santa, and the warmth of gathering with old friends and new.  Please bring your favorite side-dish or dessert and an unwrapped toy for the TPD / TFD Toy Drive.

RSVP by Sunday November 30 to Kathi Galbasin at 310-370-3294 or email kathleen.galbasin@verizon.netWe will need to know the number attending and what dish you will be bringing.

5)  Certificates for TARAmembers who took part in the October 4 NIMS training are in!  Please call Chuck Galbasin to arrange for pick up.  It is up to each individual to sure the proper agencies i.e. TARA / DCS have copies of your NIMS certificates in their file.

6)  This year's Torrance Fire Department Firefighter Mass Casualty Incident Drills will be held on Saturdays, November 8th and 15th, and Sunday, November 23rd.  Morning drills will start at 8:00 a.m. for moulage and be completed by noon.  The afternoon drills will start at 12:30 p.m. for moulage and be completed by 2:30 p.m.

There will be coffee and donuts for the morning session and lunch will be provided for those who attend both the a.m. and p.m. sessions.  We need many volunteers / victims (including those from ADT and TARA) to make this a successful drill for our firefighters.  If interested, please contact Kathi KG6RPM.

7)  The TARA Board of Directors meets at 7:30 PM on the first Monday of each month in the Police Department's upstairs Seminar Room.  All TARA members and applicants are invited to attend.  We need your fresh ideas and enthusiasm to keep TARA growing and vital.
