The Torrance Police Department Intern Program provides excellent experience for qualified college student who are interested in law enforcement or related careers.  The program offers an insight into law enforcement and the procedures involved.  Interns work alongside police officers, services officers and other sworn and non-sworn department employees and work a variety of assignments including Community Affairs, Personnel, Traffic and Records.  As part of their duties, Interns can also participate ride alongs, monitor the 911 emergency call taking process and participate in a number of specialty events such as DUI checkpoints, task forces, careers days and community outreach programs.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a two or four year college or university, taking 12 units per semester and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (preferably majoring in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business or another related field)
• Be at least 18 years old
• Possess a valid California driver's license
• High School diploma or possess a GED
• No felony convictions or be on probation for any criminal offense

Requirements

Work a minimum of four hours a week during the school year and/or work during school breaks.  Scheduling is flexible.

Hiring process

Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis and interviews are scheduled as needed. Intern applicants are subject to an oral interview and standard background process, including fingerprinting.
