Disaster Expo 2009
This year's Expo offered attendees a way to prepare for disasters while having fun with the whole family. Vendors hosted displays and sold disaster-related supplies. First responders such as the Torrance Fire Department and members of the Urban Search and Rescue division addressed the City's commitment to being prepared. They were available to share their experiences, effective rescue procedures, answer questions and provide helpful tips. Attendees also saw exciting equipment such as the Torrance Police Department's Mobile Command Vehicle used to ensure the City of Torrance is prepared for a major disaster. Display booths from the City's Animal Control Unit, Community Affairs' Map Your Neighborhood, and South Bay Platoon had participated.
The City of Torrance encourages those who missed the Expo this year to attend this educational and informative, yet fun event next year to assist in making sure the Torrance community is prepared in case of a disaster. Preparedness starts at home!

Tip A Cop benefitting South Bay Special Olympics
The Torrance Police Department hosted anothe very successful Tip a Cop event on April 16th. We were able to raise $5400 to benefit the South Bay Special Olympics. ALL proceeds from the Tip A Cop event go directly to the South Bay Special Olympics to help support the Olympians. Last year we were able to raise enough money to send two Special Olympians to the Special Olympics games in China. So far this year, we have been able to raise nearly $11,000 for Special Olympics thanks to the generous donations from our community To find out more about the Tip A Cop program, view the South Bay Special Olympics website at http://www.sosc.org/ or click here
