HAZARDOUS MATERIALS DISCLOSURE PROGRAM

Every business in Torrance that handles hazardous materials in amounts equal to or greater than 55 gallons of liquids, 200 cubic feet of compressed gases or 500 pounds of solids must complete the following forms, which can be found in the

2009 Hazardous Materials Reporting Packet

. Click on the link to download a copy of the form

WHY REPORT HAZARDOUS MATERIALS?
Goal: To reduce the likelihood and consequences of hazardous materials incidents to the community and the environment.

Both State and Federal regulations require businesses to disclose information about the hazardous materials they store and/or use to the local fire department. The Torrance Fire Department maintains a database inventory of all disclosed hazardous materials; verifies the information provided by hazardous materials users; inspects their facilities; and disseminates verified hazardous materials inventories to emergency response personnel. Additionally, emergency response business plans for handling hazardous materials incidents in these facilities are collected and reviewed.

Users of targeted amounts of regulated hazardous materials are identified and required to submit Risk Management Plans (RMPs). These RMPs are scheduled and reviewed by our Hazardous Materials Analyst.

All underground storage tanks within the City are tracked and certified by our Hazard Materials Specialist for compliance with local and state regulations.

Our Fire Prevention and Hazardous Materials Administration offices are conveniently located adjacent to the City's Building and Safety Department in the East Annex of the City Hall Complex (3031 Torrance Blvd.).
