Grants Available to Nonprofit Arts Groups Serving Torrance

The City of Torrance is receiving applications for its 2008-09 Nonprofit Arts Grants.  Nonprofit organizations may apply for grants of up to $1,000 if they are located in Torrance, or otherwise serve substantially the residents of Torrance, with arts programs or services.

It is a program of the Torrance Cultural Arts Commission, which will review the applications and recommend awards on a competitive basis to the Torrance City Council for final approval.  Since its inception in 2001, a total of $39,940 has been awarded through the arts grants program. 

The grant funds are intended to assist the development and presentation of visual, performing and literary arts projects and programs conducted between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.  All grant funds must be matched one-to-one by the recipient.  Individuals are not eligible. 

Organizations must submit an official application and proof of nonprofit status under IRS Code 501(C)(3) and Section 2370 1d of the California Franchise Tax Code.  Application forms are available by telephone (310) 618-2376 or online at http://www.torrnet.com/.  They are due by 4:30 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Torrance City Clerk's Office, 3031 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503.
