RENTAL OF PARK BUILDINGS

Application for Use of Dee Hardison Sports Center

  • The Dee Hardison Sports Center is comprised of an 18,200 square-foot gymnasium and a 2,760 square-foot multipurpose room.
  • The gymnasium space is designed for both basketball and volleyball use.  Through the use of an operable curtain, two full court basketball games or three volleyball games can be run simultaneously.  Seating capacity for the gymnasium is 1,300.
  • The multipurpose area provides a space for a variety of classes, as well as a space for charter clubs and gymnastics.  This room allows for a full range of activity without interfering with sporting events in the gymnasium area.

These fees are per court or multipurpose room.
Non- profit $40.00/hr
Private $50.00/hr

  • The electric scoreboard is available for a fee of $10.00/hr, per court, (2 hour minimum)
  • This fee includes Community Services staff to operate the scoreboards.   Flip charts are available at no fee.
  • There is an initial $16.00 billing fee for any long term permits.
  • There will be a $250.00 refundable security and cleaning deposit for all long term users.
  • All groups of 100 or more, or user groups requesting multiple dates of usage, must supply Proof of Liability Insurance in the amount of one million dollars with the City of Torrance named as Additionally Insured.

GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE DEE HARDISON SPORTS CENTER RENTAL

  1. No Alcoholic beverages of any type are allowed at any of the City Parks or Park Facilities per Municipal Code 49.2.6.
  2. Food, drinks, hard-soled and black-soled shoes are absolutely prohibited in the gymnasium and multipurpose rooms. Any group wishing to sell merchandise must provide the Facility Booking Office with a City of Torrance Business License.
  3. To qualify as a non-profit organization, an organization must be recognized by the California Franchise Tax Board and/or the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt entity.
  4. To qualify as a RESIDENT non-profit category, an organization must fit the non-profit description above and must be based in the City of Torrance.
  5. All reservations for the Sports Center which require special needs, such as the use of the scoreboard, bleachers, curtain, tables and chairs, or the need of additional staff, must be made at least 7 days in advance, or obtain an official approval from the Sports Center Supervisor.  Such use will require additional fees.
  6. An official contact person must meet with the Sports Center staff before and after the activity times for an inspection of the condition of the facilities.  This representative will be responsible for supervising the clean up of any area by their group.
  7. A rental group will be billed for any damages and/or the amount will be deducted from a deposit.
  8. All rental time reserved must include set-up time and take down time.  The Sports Center will only be available to the rental group during the hours reserved.

RESERVATION FOR LARGE AND SMALL PICNIC GROUPS

The City of Torrance has implemented a program for group picnic reservations. A fee plus a deposit is charged to reserve a designated picnic area, which will cover maintenance, staff, and administrative costs. Parks where picnic reservations may be made are Columbia, El Nido, Torrance or Wilson Parks. Picnic Fee Schedule, Application for Use of Designated Picnic Areas

Groups of 50 or more are required to obtain a picnic permit; groups of less than 50 may do so if desired at one of the four designated parks.

Summarizing our basic guidelines:

  1. Torrance residents, groups and organizations may make picnic reservations nine months in advance. Non-Resident groups and organizations may make reservations 14 days in advance.
  2. Torrance Residents may make reservations for large groups of up to 200 with the required insurance.
  3. Reservations for groups of 200 or more may be made by groups and organizations with the required insurance.
  4. All large groups (100 or greater) are required to pay a refundable cleaning and security deposit of $250.00. Large groups are required to show proof of general liability coverage of one million dollars that names the City as additionally insured. This coverage can be obtained at the time the picnic reservation is made.
  5. Picnic fees and deposits for smaller groups are determined by group size.
  6. Refreshment stands, large grills or barbecues, gazebos, amphitheatres, and other special facilities at the four designated parks may also be reserved.
  7. Astro-Jumps are permitted at Wilson, Columbia, El Nido, and Torrance Parks.  All groups, regardless of size, are required to make picnic reservations.  The City of Torrance does not provide electricity for Astro-Jumps.
  8. Sound permits must be obtained for any amplified sound at the parks (Municipal Code Sections 46.1.1, 45.1.2, and 46.1.3). The sound permit must be obtained after the picnic permit fees have been paid, and a copy of the completed sound permit must be submitted to the Facility Booking Office. All requests for sound permits must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the event. Amplified sound (with a permit) is allowed at the Torrance Park Bandshell and at the Wilson Park Gazebo.
  9. Alcohol is prohibited at ALL city parks (Municipal code Section 49.2.6).
  10. Ponies are NOT permitted at any of our parks.
  11. Please be advised that ball diamond permits must be obtained separately and are not included with a picnic permit.
