Home Delivery Volunteer opportunities: Importance of the Position: Significantly impact the life of Torrance residents by delivering materials to individuals who are unable to visit library facilities.

Supervisor: Senior Librarian in Charge of Access Services, Philip Ross

Qualifications:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Possess a valid California Drivers License, furnish proof of adequate automobile insurance as per City regulations, availability of personal vehicle.
  • Willingness to commit to an ongoing delivery schedule and pay for fuel used.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the needs of and communicate with elderly adults and/or individuals with disabilities.
  • Patience, flexibility, and dependability.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with Senior Librarian in Charge of Access Services to select materials for home delivery to assigned patrons based on information on file at the library. This may require using the automated catalog to locate and request particular titles.
  • Deliver and pick up library materials from clients' homes in a timely manner.
  • Complete work in a neat and accurate manner with a minimum distraction to others.
  • Fulfill agreed upon commitment, or give supervisor adequate notice if unable to provide service for agreed upon schedule.
Training provided:
  • Orientation to the Library.
  • Specific instructions involved in the use of the library's catalog, selection of materials, and delivering library materials to individuals' homes.

Time commitment: Varies

Length of commitment: Minimum of six months

Grounds for termination: Failure to carry out assigned responsibilities or misrepresenting the Library or its policies.
