Construction on Torrance Blvd - Expect Delays (August 22, 2008)

TORRANCE, Calif., August 22, 2008 - On Friday, August 22, at 9:00 a.m. the contractor for Public Works will begin construction of two new underground storm drains on Torrance Blvd.  The locations on Torrance Blvd are: 1) Between Crenshaw Blvd and Elm Ave; and 2) Between Madrona Ave and Maple Ave (in front of City Hall).

To expedite construction and for safety, concrete barriers will be installed in the center of Torrance Blvd.  The concrete barrier will protect the work area on a 24-hour basis for approximately 5 weeks.  Accordingly, the following traffic impacts will be in effect:

Ø      Torrance Blvd will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Madrona Ave. and Crenshaw Blvd. on a 24-hour basis.  Delays are expected.

Ø      Left turns will be prohibited on a 24-hour basis into and out of the driveway between the West Annex and Human Resources.  It is recommended that you use the driveway on Madrona Ave near the Ken Miller Recreation Center to access the Civic Center Complex.  Right turns into and out of all driveways on Torrance Blvd will be allowed.

Ø      Left turns will be prohibited into and out of Date Ave, Elm Ave, the northside Torrance Blvd Service Road near Eriel Ave and the southside Torrance Blvd Service Road across from City Hall.

Construction activity will continue on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24, to complete work within the intersections of Torrance Blvd/Crenshaw Blvd and Torrance Blvd/Maple Ave.  The weekend work will require the closure of additional travel and left-turn lanes on Crenshaw Blvd and Maple Ave for the entire weekend.  Delays are expected.

A total of 6 message signs are installed to inform motorists of the work.  In addition, Public Notices were hand-delivered to residents between Madrona and Crenshaw, as far north as Maricopa and as far south as Eldorado.
