The City of Torrance requires that all residents interested in serving on a commission be certified through the City of Torrance Commissioner Certification Program. This program was developed to prepare prospective candidates in the roles, responsibilities, and requirements of commission service.
The program is a 2-hour class hosted by City staff at the Torrance Civic Center. Because commissioners are appointed in January, certification classes are conducted twice annually. There is no charge for this training. It is recommended that if you are interested in serving as a Commissioner before the end of the year you attend the June training session. Admittance is on a first come first served basis. The certification is valid for two years.
The next certification class will be on Wednesday October 22, 2008. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the training application here.
