Fire Auxiliary: The Torrance Fire Department Auxiliary program provides Fire Academy graduates an opportunity to apply their acquired skills and gain insight, while preparing for a fire service career. The Auxiliary Fire Fighter position is a one-year volunteer (non-paid) commitment. The Auxiliary works one 24-hour shift per week. The Auxiliary responds to emergencies, assists with Fire Prevention inspections, maintains apparatus, equipment and the fire station. They also participate with training and public education. The Auxiliary Fire Fighter will be expected to perform miscellaneous duties and drive department utility vehicles.

Broadcast Journalism Volunteer Internship: Torrance CitiCABLE 3 offers college students majoring in Journalism, Communications, English, or Broadcasting the opportunity to produce, report and write stories for Torrance CitiCABLE 3. Put your skills to use covering local events. Gain hands-on experience conducting field interviews, packaging visual and audio elements into newsworthy segments, and making camera appearances. This is an excellent way to get your resume tape together, while enhancing, broadening, and refining your television producing skills.
Community Relations Volunteer Internship: The City of Torrance, the sixth largest city in Los Angeles County, is looking for a Community/Public Relations Intern to assist in promoting the City of Torrance through media relations, and various community relations campaigns. The City's Office of Cable and Community Relations has an internship opportunity for a community relations, public relations, communications, public administration, or journalism student to work 16 - 20 hours per week for a minimum of 3-months (1 semester). This provides an excellent opportunity to gain "hands-on" experience in the different elements of the field of public relations and public affairs.
Madrona Marsh Clean Up
This project is designed for a large group of at least 25 persons and is scheduled for a Saturday for the hours of 9-4 p.m. Volunteers dig, plant and clean up a 50 by 150-foot area of the Marsh. It is advised that the coordinators of the event provide a lunch to keep the group together during the project.
Adopt-A-Park and City Beautification
This program offers community groups, organizations, businesses and individuals the opportunity to volunteer their resources and enhance the appearance, character and quality of Torrance parks and streets. The volunteer work under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Department.
