Lead Traffic Painter

Definition

Under the supervision of the Traffic and Lighting Foreman to lead and work with a small crew; to drive a truck; to operate traffic marking devices and equipment; and to do related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

  • Paints trucks and street equipment and matches paints;
  • erects scaffolding and platforms;
  • uses sandblasting machine to remove paint from streets and structures where indicated;
  • cleans brushes, tools and other equipment;
  • paints traffic markings and safety zones on streets;
  • paints curb markings;
  • paints street barricades and signs;
  • works on all types of street construction when necessary;
  • may serve in a position of higher responsibility for training purposes and performs other duties as directed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of
  • Methods, materials and equipment used in painting, tinting and finishing buildings, equipment, street and other surfaces.
  • Ability to:
  • Paint by both brush and spray machine methods;
  • Mix paints and colors;
  • Erect and work from scaffolding;
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • License Required

    A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License of the appropriate class or grade.

    Experience

    Three years of experience as a painter.

    Education

    Equivalent to graduation from high school.
