Traffic Painter

Definition

Under general supervision to perform the work of painting traffic markings; painting, installation and maintaining traffic and street signs throughout the City; and to do related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

  • Operates center line paint machine and other spraying apparatus;
  • paints or stencils traffic directional signs or symbols;
  • paints and stripes barricades, guard rails and miscellaneous signs;
  • cuts and prepares stencils and makes painting templates;
  • sands, buffs, re-letters, and paints street name signs;
  • does lettering and numbering on automotive equipment, parking locations signs, and directional signs;
  • paints automotive equipment;
  • installs and maintains traffic and street name signs throughout the City;
  • operates post hole digger, post driver, sign refurbisher, concrete mixer, sand blaster and truck;
  • sets sign posts and barricades;
  • assists in the installation of electric traffic signals;
  • maintains work records and inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of:
  • The methods, materials, equipment and safety measures used in spray, brush and traffic painting, and in traffic and street name sign installation;
  • Ability to:
  • Properly clean, oil and maintain spray apparatus, brushes, stencils, and other equipment;
  • Follow directions, read and interpret rough location sketches, regulations and ordinances relating to traffic painting and signs.
  • License Required

    A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License of the appropriate class or grade.

    Experience

    Two years of varied brush and spray painting experience or traffic sign installation and maintenance.

    Education

    Equivalent to completion of eighth grade.
