Street Maintenance Leader

Definition

Under general supervision to supervise a small crew and assist in the construction and repair of streets, and related components; and to do related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

  • Supervises and assists a crew in filling and resurfacing holes, ditches, cracks, of cutting out, backfill, and compacting, of patching and rolling with oil, rock, asphaltic concrete and other permanent paving materials after settlement of excavations;
  • follows standards and meets grades and levels to allow proper water drainage;
  • confers with supervisor on necessary deviations;
  • occasionally operates such road construction equipment as grader, spreader, roller, tractor, bulldozer, skip loader, compressor and air tools;
  • supervises setting of warning devices and barricades;
  • oversees field maintenance of tools and equipment;
  • maintains time and materials records;
  • prepares periodic and special reports;
  • performs a variety of general maintenance work.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of:
  • The methods, terminology, tools and equipment used in the construction and repair of streets, and related components;
  • The characteristics and uses of bituminous paving materials, concrete, and other related materials.
  • Safety practices and devices used in connection with public works maintenance work.
  • Ability to:
  • Plan, schedule, inspect, supervise and assist the work of crews engaged in equipment operation, street and sub-drain and other varied activities;
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications;
  • Keep records and make reports;
  • Follow written and oral directions;
  • Work effectively with others.
  • Experience

    Three years of public works experience in work involving equipment operation and the maintenance and construction of streets, and related components.

    Education

    Equivalent to graduation from high school.
