Definition

Under supervision, to work with a crew in refuse loading and packing; to serve as a relief driver on a refuse truck; and to do related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

Works behind a refuse truck in picking up refuse, waste materials, trash and discarded house and building furnishings;

loads refuse into a truck, exercising caution in lifting and handling heavy materials;

replaces containers on curb; tags unsafe containers;

cleans up debris around areas as schedules permit;

drives refuse truck as a relief driver;

performs various unskilled laboring tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Methods of lifting heavy articles and loads in a safe manner;

Elementary first aid practices.

Ability to:

Lift heavy articles;

Perform heavy physical labor;

Work under close supervision and in harmony with other employees.

License Required

A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License of the appropriate class or grade.

Experience

None.

Education

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
