Refuse Worker

Definition

Under supervision, to work with a crew in refuse loading and packing; to serve as a relief driver on a refuse truck; and to do related work as required.

Examples Of Duties

  • Works behind a refuse truck in picking up refuse, waste materials, trash and discarded house and building furnishings;
  • loads refuse into a truck, exercising caution in lifting and handling heavy materials;
  • replaces containers on curb; tags unsafe containers;
  • cleans up debris around areas as schedules permit;
  • drives refuse truck as a relief driver;
  • performs various unskilled laboring tasks as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of:
  • Methods of lifting heavy articles and loads in a safe manner;
  • Elementary first aid practices.
  • Ability to:
  • Lift heavy articles;
  • Perform heavy physical labor;
  • Work under close supervision and in harmony with other employees.
  • License Required

    A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License of the appropriate class or grade.

    None.

    Education

    Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
