Cable Television Production Specialist
Position Summary
Under supervision plans and coordinates the various aspects of cable television program production for the City's Government Communications Cable Channel; performs pre-production and post-production duties; and does related duties as required.
Job Duties
Responsible for pre-production planning to include determining type and placement of production equipment to be used (such as camera, audio and lighting equipment) and assembling and setting up scenery.
Sets up, operates, and maintains studio, control room, and field production equipment (such as television cameras, video recorders, microphones, lights, and photographic and graphic equipment).
Performs post-production duties of editing, dubbing, and duplicating tapes, photographing subjects or scenes, developing black and white prints and preparing slides for programs.
Determines appropriate program format for prepared scripts and writes scripts for short programs.
Establishes and maintains records of equipment used to monitor performance and to facilitate planning for maintenance and supplies.
Prepares reports summarizing the production activities for each program.
Assists in directing location and studio productions.
Monitors and directs the work activities of student interns.
May supervise subordinate staff.
Provides training to community groups on cable television production and equipment use.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Types, uses and maintenance of television production equipment;
Television program creation, development, scripting and production;
Types of television program formats;
Techniques of photography and black and white film processing.
Ability to:
Set up, operate and maintain television production equipment;
Develop television programs in a variety of formats;
Assemble and set up scenery for television program production;
Design and prepare graphics;
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the public;
Supervise and/or direct the work of others.
License
A valid California Drivers License.
Experience
One year (full or part-time) in television production (commercial, industrial, educational or cable television including paid and non-paid work experience).
Education
Associate degree in Communications, Journalism, Television Production or closely related field or completion of sixty (60) college units, including a minimum of 28 units in the major field. |
