Cliff Numark was elected to the Torrance City Council on June 3, 2008. A South Bay native and a Torrance homeowner, he has been contributing to the Torrance community through his involvement with a variety of City and community organizations.

Prior to his election to the City Council, he served as a City Commissioner for the Parks and Recreation Commission, Community Services Commission, and Cable Television Advisory Board. He also served as the Director of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce's 2008 Leadership Torrance program, secretary of the Madrona Marsh Foundation and vice-president for the Torrance Symphony and Torrance Historical Society. 

Cliff Numark is an experienced business professional with significant government, nonprofit and public affairs experience.  He currently works as a director for the American Red Cross Blood Services in Southern California, where he is responsible for recruiting nearly 400,000 volunteers to give blood products annually.  Previously, he worked in business consulting, starting a market research business, working as managing director of a management consulting firm, serving as CEO of a company advising high-tech startups, and helping launch the Larta Institute.  He began his career in public affairs, serving as a Pulliam Fellow and reporter for the Arizona Republic, a Senate Fellow in the California State Senate and as the first Fellow for the California Institute for Federal Policy Research, a think tank in Washington D.C. He has authored more than a dozen publications and has spoken at universities, including the University of Southern California, University of La Verne, Whittier College, and University of California at San Diego Extension.

He holds a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, in Chemistry and Public Policy from Pomona College, a Master of Science in Energy & Environment from the University of Sussex in England, a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley.
