Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua A. Stone

Joshua A. Stone enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1995. Upon completion of recruit training at Parris Island, SC, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, NC. His first assignment was as a percussionist with the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Band, Parris Island, SC. His additional duties while at Parris Island included percussion section leader and timpanist in the concert band. In 1998, he was reassigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force Band in Okinawa, Japan where he also served as a percussionist and drummer in the jazz ensemble.

In 2002, he was selected to serve as the Musician Technical Assistant for the Northeastern United States.  After graduating from Recruiters School in San Diego, CA, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Corps District in Garden City, NY. In 2004, he was selected for a lateral move to Small Ensemble Leader, and shortly thereafter was selected to Gunnery Sergeant.

On February 1, 2005, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone was appointed to Warrant Officer and subsequently reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA.  In June 2005, following graduation from the Warrant Officer's Basic Course, he was assigned as Director and Officer in Charge, 1st Marine Division Band, Camp Pendleton, CA.  

Shortly before his commissioning on August 1, 2006, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone deployed with the Division Band and was attached to Regimental Combat Team 5, I MEF (Fwd) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During this deployment in the Al Anbar Province, he was assigned as the Security Officer for the Fallujah Development Center.

In December 2007, under Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone's baton, the 1st Marine Division Band was awarded the Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence For Military Concert Bands by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.  The concert band selections presented for the award were:  Marsch, "Klar Zum Gefecht", March, "The Thunderer", and "Slava".  The selections were recorded live in May 2007 at the 10th Annual Spring Concert, California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone has earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Valdosta State University in Music Education.  He has performed in high profile commitments throughout the United States, Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Guam, Iraq, Iwo Jima, Japan and Korea to include the Rugby Sevens Tournament in Hong Kong. While stationed on Okinawa, Stone had the opportunity of re-enlisting on top of Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, on the 55th Anniversary of the famous flag-raising.  His military decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars and Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
