Pat Furey was elected to the Torrance City Council on June 3, 2008. Since becoming a Torrance resident twenty years ago, he has been actively involved in the Torrance community.

Prior to his election, he served the City of Torrance as a civil service commissioner and a member of the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee on Ethics & Integrity. He also served as president of the North Torrance Homeowners Association, chair of the Torrance Unified School District's Personnel Commission and as a member of other TUSD committees.  He currently is the president of the Torrance Education Foundation.

Pat Furey's contribution to Torrance continues with his long-standing involvement with Torrance youth, spanning over 20 years. He has served as a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader and continues to serve as a little league umpire. His community involvement has earned him the "James R. Armstrong Community Leadership Award" and the "Torrance Council of PTA's Honorary Service Award."

Pat Furey graduated with honors from the UCLA Attorney Assistant Training Program and worked as a legal assistant for nine years. He holds a juris doctor degree and is a member of the California State Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the California County Counsel Association.

He is currently employed by the County of Los Angeles as a Principal Deputy County Counsel assigned to the Children's Services Division. He is currently a supervising attorney at the Edelman Children's Court. Previously, he served as training and advice counsel to the Department of Children and Family Services in Torrance for more than three years.

He is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he served as a police officer for a number of years following service in the United States Army. He is married to wife Terry, a father of two children and has two grandsons.
